" One person, many characters, in different movies."
- Ife Folami Mensah
Movies take us away from our reality in the same sense music does for just a moment. At the time we are not worried about the things we have to do or deadlines we have to meet. Our yesterdays don't matter and tomorrow is not thought of.
Menace II Society
" Caine, do you care whether you live or die?"
The expression on Caine's face when asked this question, made me think why was it so hard to answer. Of course, it would be easy to reply yes, I care, but the struggle of answering this question came in because his actions s different. Often, we are so quick to respond without thinking or giving thought to what is being asked. Caine's face showed a person who internalized the question and thought before replying.
I applied this question to my life several times and depending on where I was the answer was different. My journey of truly living in peace, serenity, and tranquility has helped me answer this question more easily. I care if I live but am not afraid to die as I have no fear of the things I can't control.
The Photograph
" I'm uncomfortable with how happy you are."
From being young, distant, lost, and found. Love is never perfect but the fight and willingness of two people to make love work is the beauty in the art of love. Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield eye gazing, soft words, and smiles remind me of the love that is deserved and destined for a person who has endured so much in their love life.
When being in a position of growth and being genuinely at peace with ourselves will make others uncomfortable when they're on the outside looking in. Even the old you will find it difficult with the person you are becoming, an attempt to creep into negative thoughts and energy that will attempt to deter you from becoming your true being. Staying in touch with the things and the people that bring you joy and happiness is important on your journey of creating a positive you.
Love Jones
“Let me tell you something. This here, right now, at this very moment, is all that matters to me. I love you. That's urgent like a motherf***er."
Love Jones speaks a language of poetry throughout the entire movie with the most realistic scenes of friendship betrayal, sex, and point of view from both male and female perspectives on dating. It shows how love can hit unexpectedly and before you know it, you're deep with a heart full of love and a mind full of emotions. The African - American culture-based movie filmed in 1997 still applies to the many group's talks and skills of dating today.
Love can have you blinded to things that should matter the most. Love pauses everything else and is the only thing that matters at that time until we choose to press the play button again on the things that are connected to us or figure out how to balance life and love. This is sometimes seen when the feeling of love is at risk of being lost. The urgency of maintaining love is necessary if it is worth it.
Best Friend Holiday
"Friendship is essential to the soul."
This is the most touching movie to ever watch if you have lost someone close to you or watch someone you love battle cancer. Losing two of your best friends to cancer will make you cry after watching this movie even if you've seen it a million times. (I'm a crybaby, lol!) The connection the friends had in this movie reminds me of what real friendship is and how important friends are to one another. Terrence Howard, Taye Diggs, and Morris Chestnut along with the other actors demonstrated how friendship comes with a ton of complex challenges but true friendship will always surface back around. This film keeps me grounded as its representation of living in total freedom. A liberated life gives you the okay to do the things that will make you sad, laugh, cry, have fun and bring joy to yourself and those around you without having the fear of social anxiety, shyness, or shame of just being too darn happy or to just feel yucky.
Being aware of how and why you feel the way you feel is important to your personal growth. Not taking the time out to focus on your emotions and feelings can result in depression and anger.
